Matt, 1990

Matt's yearbook

Matt struggled in his decision for the much needed surgery. It is now scheduled for Dec 2nd with one pre – op visit. He is being treated, from what we understand, by one of the best neurosurgeons in North America, at Toronto Western. Matt’s only choice was to have risky surgery to remove his tumour located deep in his parietal lobe. It is a primary one stage 3 tumour which affects his ability to control the right side of his body. His risks are permanent paralysis, disability with speech and motor function and memory with numbers. Given this news, we need to remain positive that within a year – after this surgery and his extensive chemo and radiation treatments – that he will continue on with his life as he did previously, however; this is now a lifelong affair. This tumour will never be removed completely and Matt will undergo constant supervision to determine the rate of regrowth.

  1. Dear Christine,

Thank you for the update. Big challenges, for sure.

Please let me know how I can help. Would you like me to organize a volunteer list for drivers to take Matt to therapy?

Also, we are happy to come and help on Sundays by taking the kids out from now until Christmas (and after, too, but just looking at the current calendar).

    Much love, Mary-Claire
